The Sprint Cup of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe is set to resume for its second round on the 18th of June, 2021, in Zandvoort (NL). Last year, Emil Frey Racing had already taken on the circuit famous for its dunes and after a promising Qualifiying, was even heading for a double podium. Unfortunately, the dream of a double victory didn’t come true because of a pitstop penalty caused by the #14 Lamborghini.
The team had since analyzed the data from last year’s race weekend as well as the data from the official test days and is using those as a base for the coming race. The Safenwil Squad is ready to take on the fight.
The past race weekends have once again shown the importance of proper tire management as sudden weather changes, temperatures dropping and rising and the corresponding changing circumstances on the track greatly affect the Pirelli tires. Furthermore, sand from the dunes that gets carried by the wind onto the track is another tricky factor in Zandvoort that can’t be ignored. Emil Frey Racing has prepared for the unpredictable weather and the resulting different scenarios, and is ready to take on the following weekend schedule:
Emil Frey Racing still sits on an unchanged third place in the overall ranking (Sprint and Endurance Cup). The Safenwil Squad hopes to pick up where they left off in Zandvoort last year. This year, they hope to finish the race penalty-free and to take home a well-deserved victory. The two Qualifyings especially will be crucial, which is why Emil Frey Racing is focused on delivering strong performances in the Qualys.
A very important component is the pitstop, where every move needs to be flawless. The whole crew of mechanics as well as the drivers have been practicing very hard to perfect the pitstop. So much so that unnecessary loss of time during driver change could be reduced to a minimum.
It will be a fully packed race weekend with several support series like the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the GT4 European Series as well as the TCR Europe taking place alongside the Sprint Cup. Strict COVID safety measures will be in place, which is why this coming race weekend will on ce again be happening without a live audience.
