  • All three crews keen to build on promising performances

Safenwil (Switzerland), June 17th 2022

Emil Frey Racing begins its preparations for the jewel-in-the-crown weekend of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe season, the TotalEnergies Spa 24 Hours, in the event’s official test day between the 21-22nd June.

The two-day test will be the first time the team has been back at the 7.004km Spa-Francorchamps circuit since a dramatic edition of the Belgian around-the-clock endurance race in 2021.

It will also provide the team a solid platform on which to build on an encouraging start to the season so far. All three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs showed promising pace at the most recent round of the Endurance Cup campaign at Paul Ricard 6 hour race, with the #63 of Mirko Bortolotti, Albert Costa Balboa and Jack Aitken firmly in the hunt for victory until a late-race puncture.

The team was also satisfied with the long-run performance of the cars during the six-hour event, a key attribute of doing well in the 24 Hours with reliability, consistency and concentration paramount.

The team will also be approaching this year’s edition of the 24 Hours with unfinished business following a tumultuous event last year, which was marred by a multi-car accident at Eau Rouge de Raidillon which took out Aitken and Perera. The third car was in the mix as the sun rose in the morning, but it too was forced into retirement after a late downpour.

The Endurance Cup line-up remains unchanged, with Bortolotti, Costa Balboa and Aitken at the wheel of the #63, while Giacomo Altoè, Léo Roussel and Arthur Rougier again teaming up in the #19 Huracán. Competing for Silver Cup honours will be Konsta Lappalainen, Tuomas Tujula and Stuart White in the #14 car.
