Next stop for Emil Frey Racing: The DTM at the Lausitzring

Safenwil, Switzerland – 21st May 2024

After victory at the season-opener in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, Emil Frey Racing will continue with the second round of the DTM next weekend at the Lausitzring. The next stop in the season marking the 40th anniversary of the DTM is eagerly awaited – not least after the victory in Oschersleben and the fond memories of the first DTM victory last year.

The first weekend in the DTM brought mixed feelings for the team from Safenwil, because after Pole Position and victory on Saturday, the two Ferrari 296 GT3s did not see the chequered flag in Sunday’s race. Despite the retirement, Jack Aitken is running in second place in the drivers’ standings. Emil Frey Racing currently ranks sixth with 32 points – and with only 16 points difference to the leaders, the tide can turn quickly with good results at the Lausitzring.

The last two race weekends in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup Powered by AWS at Brands Hatch and Misano showed the team’s competitive strength – and the Swiss team would like to continue the podium series at the Lausitzring.

The 4.570-kilometre racetrack is technically very demanding, not least because of the banking with a gradient of 4.5% and a cross slope of up to 10%. The team and drivers can also expect a different schedule. Due to the TV broadcast, the race on Saturday will not take place at 01:30 p.m. as usual, but at 05:00 p.m..

The second round of the DTM will take place from 24 to 26 May 2024 at the Lausitzring north of Dresden in Germany. The racing series can be seen again on Pro7 in the 2024 season.

Team Quotes Emil Frey Racing

Lorenz Frey-Hilti, Team Principal

“The Lausitzring is a racetrack where we have always been able to achieve good results. Whether it’s a podium result, Pole Position or our first DTM victory in 2023 – the Lausitzring has been a good venue for us so far. This year, the weekend at the Lausitzring will take place earlier than usual in the racing calendar and we are keen to see what the weather conditions will be like.”

Jürg Flach, Technical Director

“Last year, we took our first DTM victory at the Lausitzring, so we obviously have very fond memories. We need to build on our performance from Oschersleben to score more important points for the championship. We are very well-prepared and are travelling to the Lausitzring with optimism.”

Driver Quotes

Jack Aitken (Great Britain) #14

“So far, the team has always achieved good results at the Lausitzring. After our performance this year, we should be able to build on this and repeat similar successes. Of course, every year is different and even with our strong start to the year, you can never know exactly how the competition will line-up. Nevertheless, we are going into the weekend with high expectations and are aiming for another successful race.”

Thierry Vermeulen (The Netherlands) #69

“The second round of the DTM is coming up. Our car was very good last year, and Jack in particular had a successful weekend with his and the team’s first DTM win. So, there are a lot of positives to look forward to. Last year I couldn’t quite match Jack’s level of performance and I want to work on that this year. As a team, we are well-prepared, and I have also been training in the simulator – we are all very excited.”
