Emil Frey Racing ready for second Sprint Cup weekend in Misano

Safenwil – Switzerland, 14th May 2024

One pole position and two second places: That was a promising start to the season. And Emil Frey Racing will take this momentum into the coming weekend when the next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup Powered by AWS takes place at the Misano World Circuit.

Same as with the season opener in Brands Hatch last week, the team and the four drivers can expect a tight two-day programme in Italy. This means full concentration from the first lap in Free Practice. However, it is not only thanks to their recent successes that the team is going into the weekend stronger than ever: last year, the team finished on the podium with local hero Giacomo Altoè on the 4.226-kilometre circuit – and with the Italian back in action, this brings a double dose of motivation. Both races will be held on Saturday, whereby the second race will be a special highlight as it will take place as a night-race and will not start until 9.00 p.m.

The track layout with its combination of fast and slow corners suits the Ferrari 296 GT3. On the race track, which is actually known worldwide more for its motorbike races, 36 GT3 cars will once again be battling it out for the top positions. Spring-like temperatures are forecast for the race weekend on the Italian Adriatic coast.

The second round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup Powered by AWS will take place on 17 and 18 May 2024 at the Misano World Circuit (Italy). All sessions and races will be streamed live on the YouTube channel @gtworld.

Team Quotes Emil Frey Racing

Lorenz Frey-Hilti, Team Principal
‘We have achieved good results in three different championships in the still young season. We are working hard to maintain this performance. The competition is enormous, and every championship point has to be hard earned.  After narrowly missing out on a win in the Sprint Cup a few times last year, a success on the top step of the podium would obviously be very nice for the whole team and is our goal. We’re really looking forward to the weekend.’

Jürg Flach, Technical Director
‘We’ve had two strong weekends so far this season and are ready for the third. With the recent podium finishes in the Sprint Cup at Brands Hatch, the entire team and the drivers now have the necessary momentum and are well-prepared for the next race weekend in Misano.’

Driver Quotes – #69
Thierry Vermeulen
 (The Netherlands)
‘We had a good weekend at Brands Hatch and now we’re off to Misano. We just have to keep a cool head and do our best. It will certainly be an exciting weekend and the competition is extremely strong.’

Giacomo Altoè (Italy)
‘I’m really looking forward to Misano, my home race. After the promising start to the season at Brands Hatch, the aim is obviously to get at least one more podium and try to fight for the win. I know the track well and the team is doing a great job, so I think we have all the ingredients to get what we deserve!’

Driver Quotes – #14
Konsta Lappalainen
(Finland)
‘Misano is not necessarily my favourite track, but it’s fun to drive there. I was on the podium last year, back then with Giacomo in the car, and it’s always a fond memory. Of course, it would be very nice to take a win.’

Ben Green (Great Britain)
‘I think we should have a good chance of fighting at the front. After the first weekend at Brands Hatch, it’s clear that we have a strong line-up, and the car is working well. We should continue that in Misano and can fight for the top again!’
